Hi I'm Nicole

Newborn

There are many reasons why you’ll regret it if you skip a maternity session. Now, this isn’t a post to try and make you feel bad should you choose to never get one. Instead, allow me to share the beautiful side of why you should consider having maternity photos taken, no matter how many children you have (or want).

The Beauty of Pregnancy

It goes without saying that every pregnancy is unique. Ask any mom of multiples and she’ll most likely be delighted to tell you about each one. You’ll quickly notice that they are all different and house their own special memories.

Even though the journey of being pregnant can come with its rollercoaster ride of emotions and bodily changes, it’s still one to be celebrated. Skipping over the maternity shoot is one of the biggest regrets I hear that most moms have. Keep reading for my top five reasons you don’t want to skip over having maternity pictures taken.

1. Do it, even if you don’t feel like your usual gorgeous self.

Some women are over the moon about the changes their body goes through, while some are a combination of terrified and insecure. I’ll be the first to tell you that regardless of how your body looks, pregnancy is beautiful on EVERY woman. And it’s my job to help you see that.

I’ve also found that doing a maternity shoot can help you see just how beautiful you are and pulls that out through the photography session. The thought of getting dressed up, dolled up, and focus on this special stage of motherhood does something to your self-esteem. And that’s a good thing!

2. Celebrate how powerful and magical your pregnant body is.

There have been many stigmas and opinions built around pregnancy, motherhood, and how those milestones are reached. On one hand, you have moms who have experienced tremendous loss. On the other, there are moms who’ve experienced slim to no issues. And yet, on another there are others who have had to adopt, use fertility measures, or even opt in for surrogacy.

None of these should be discounted on behalf of the other. Nevertheless, if you are having a successful pregnancy, it’s all the more reason to document it with a maternity session.

3. Capture this moment in time of your growing family.

Whether your current pregnancy is your first, second, or even fifth, capturing moments of your growing family is certainly one for the books. Every mom will tell you that your children not only grow fast once they’re earthside, but they grow just as fast in the womb. If you have older children, it would be an amazing memory to have a few maternity pictures taken with them as well. You may be surprised by the emotions and feelings the camera can catch.

4. Show your children WHO they were, BEFORE they were.

Fun fact: Scientific evidence shows kids who are surrounded by pics of themselves and their family have high self-confidence and self-worth. So why not start from when they were in utero? Our fast-paced society would lead you to believe that the days of printed photographs are coming to end, but that’s not true.

Capture these precious moments and use them as home decor in your child’s room or build a gallery wall using family pictures taken from different moments in time. Being able to include maternity pictures can help make it all complete.

5. Use it as a way to connect with your newborn and family photographer.

If you’re planning on getting newborn pictures and future family pictures, you can use the maternity session as a time to really get to know your photographer. As with any service, we like to connect with our clients because you are much more than that to us. Initially, we become part of your family even if it’s just for the day. Consider using the maternity shoot for the benefit of having someone you can depend on to take present and future photos of your precious family.

Final Thoughts

Maternity sessions are some of the most fun and beautiful shoots that I do. Being able to capture such a precious moment in time and create long lasting memories in the process is such a blessing. Before you let this moment pass you by, let’s connect and see if doing a maternity session is right for you.
