Shopping for newborn session outfits can be so much fun, but it can also be a little overwhelming when it comes to choosing the perfect ones. This should be a super exciting time; so, I’m going to share a few of my favorite shops as well as answer a few most-asked questions about newborn sessions. When should I schedule my newborn session?
Maternity and newborn shoots are some of the most popular sessions booked. That’s why it’s best to book the session well ahead of time. Most moms-to-be will book them as early as the second trimester to ensure they secure the photographer they prefer as well as give themselves time to shop and make any changes.
If you are having a planned birth, you may not need to pencil in several dates and times. However, if you are having a natural birth, be sure to communicate this with your photographer in the event you go past your due date. There is a sensitive window of 5 to 14 days old to capture some of the best newborn photos.
When should I start shopping fo newborn session outfits?
Similar to the rule of thumb for booking your newborn session, it doesn’t hurt to start shopping for their outfits early too. In fact, you can possibly save yourself a little time and money by including this in your baby shower registry. You can even ask for gift cards to specific shops (like the ones I mention below).
In essence, you’ll want to have several outfits picked out, purchased, and ready for shoot day at no later than a month in advance.
What should my baby wear for their newborn session?
Most photographers will suggest that your baby start in a loose diaper and swaddled. The loose diaper will prevent diaper marks around the legs and waist and the swaddle will help them be calm. In some cases, photographers request the baby to be naked during the session so having them undressed beforehand can help the process.
If you want to put your baby in cute clothing, it’s recommended to stick with solid colors and soft-textured materials. The outfit should compliment the cuteness of your baby and the rest of the family and not overpower.
